About Us

In the early 1980’s, the insurance industry was largely located in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles.  It was a time when clients were walking distances away, everyone had a story about where they were when the riots broke out, and reinsurance was cool!  The industry then, as it is today, was populated by a lot of people who enjoyed working hard, having fun, and enjoying life along the way.  To that end, an un-official holiday party was organized annually by a small group of mostly property professionals in hopes of ending the year on a high note.  As the years went by the party grew in popularity to the point of the event becoming one of the industry’s “must attend” festivities.

But the mid-Wilsher scene was not to last.  The 1990’s saw insurers lured away to addresses afar and the market became fragmented – geographically speaking.  A group known as the L.A. Underwriters suffered the most as previous attendance at their functions was always just a short walk away.  As people began balking at the thought of having to commute to monthly meetings, attendance declined and L.A Underwriters found themselves with an attendance problem.

As luck would have it, just as the L.A. Underwriters were looking for solutions to their geography problems the un-official band of holiday revelers found themselves looking for ways to formalize their charitable donations.  You see, the party had become so popular that the party actually made money…and everything extra was going to local charities to support deserving children.  The happy ending here is that L.A Underwriters stayed intact with the added benefit of a now very popular social and networking outlet.  Once the forces formally merged, CAIP was born with the following mission in mind:

Our mission is to promote a facility which provides opportunities for professional
education along with social activities for the purpose of benefiting charities in Southern California.

To accomplish this mission the CAIP Board of Directors, with the support of the
members, use holiday events, golf events and educational seminars.  Chances are you’ve heard of one or more of these activities…CAIP has certainly come a long way from the party’s on Brand Blvd.!

Since CAIP's inception CAIP has donated over $80,000 to charities including Habitat for Humanity, Second Careers, Chrysalis, School on Wheels and Child S.H.A.R.E., which aids in placing children with foster families. And keeping up the longest of CAIP’s tradition, CAIP members have donated countless numbers of toys to less for fortunate children during the holidays.

Socially, from the very first CAIP sponsored holiday party at the Italian Fisherman in
Glendale, CAIP has provided a venue for members of all facets of the insurance industry to meet, network and have a good time with a charitable cause in mind. Traditionally our most successful event each year is the golf tournament, which is played in the spring time and was first played at Braemar County Club in 1993. Today it is hosted at Pacific Palms which is located in Industry Hills, CA.  In 2009, the event was attended by more than 150 golfers and ChildS.H.A.R.E. received one of their largest checks in the process!

Lastly, CAIP has sponsored several educational seminars and hosts a picnic for children looking for homes via ChildS.H.A.R.E; You can find out more about these activities by clicking on the links for these events.
